WATER PLANTS

Potamogeton natans mariannensis
Floating Pondweed

Potamogeton zizii
Shining Pondweed

Submerged water plants with creeping rootstock; upper leaves floating, elliptical, somewhat pointed at each end. The growth of Potamogeton and other water plants is so vigorous in Guam as to check the flow of the river and must be cleaned out periodically.

For more information, see Safford's Useful Plants of Guam, 2009 facsimile edition, page 360

NOTE: Water plant that Safford is most likely referring to is Eichhornia crassipes. For more information regarding choking rivers in Agana, La Cienaga, Agana Spring see Stone.1970, Flora of Guam, pg 116
